Cabling and Bracing Trees in Austin

Cabling and Bracing Trees

Cabling and bracing are the two most common forms of structural support for trees used in the tree care industry today.  It generally consists of installing metal hardware (both flexible braided cable or rigid metal rods) permanently into a tree to improve or strengthen a structural defect of a tree.

In many cases, the hardware will be able to prolong the safe useful life of a tree.  If the tree defect or injury is too severe, the tree may need to be removed for long-term safety.   We do everything we can to salvage every tree possible; cable/bracing are great ways to achieve our goals in saving your prized tree.

Prior to installing hardware in an attempt to strengthen a tree defect, it is important to have an arborist thoroughly inspect the tree and determine if it is a candidate for added supports.  It is not only important to consult with someone who understands when to cable and brace, but also someone that knows how to install the systems.  The tree care industry along with ANSI A300 standards created a Best Management Practices that should be followed when determining the correct materials to install and proper placement of the given materials.

If these support systems are installed incorrectly, it not only weakens an already compromised tree, but also gives the property owner a false sense of security that can lead to long-term failure and liability risks.
