One of the most difficult tasks that face arborist is diagnosing a sick or stressed tree.  In most cases, it is not one cause but several causal agents that lead to the decline and eventual death of our trees in urban settings.  Disease and pest management becomes paramount when keeping our trees healthy.  Trees are often over taken by a disease or insect following some stress caused to the tree by an outside factor.  In many cases, if these stressors are not identified and improved the pest will return even if they are treated.
